A of our older ones have it to some degree, it's sort of a generalized cloudiness, very obvious when you look at it in the light. A dog with sclerosis will still show a reflective eye shine at night, while a cataract actually blocks the lens and you don't get the reflection. Our dogs with cataracts have very small ones, looks like a little blob of white stuff. Very opaque.

Cockers are prone to genetic cataracts that develop in middle age, IIRC. Old age cataracts are due to oxidation, the eye loses the ability to de-oxidize the damage caused by UV as the dog ages. In humans there are studies that show people who eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (antioxidants) have a later onset of old age cataracts.

JessAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68327275018045829.post-1587043449202986442008-07-25T09:21:00.000-06:002008-07-25T09:21:00.000-06:00Frank,Jess is just teasing, we haven't read it eit...Frank,

Jess is just teasing, we haven't read it either but they apparently hypped up the bad a bit. I wasn't happy about the interview and told Dabel after it was over that I would not be doing another interview for Wizard.I felt slimmy afterwards....ewww.

Tch, we actually started putting up a 20 inch metal snake fence. Of course it's not done yet and we had another visitor last night, a big sucker. No one was bitten and the snake catcher we bought worked good.. but the snake was so heavy it bent the pole some... I might need a smaller lenght.

Best,

BrettBretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12168403050889835504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68327275018045829.post-6895897748947298732008-07-25T01:42:00.000-06:002008-07-25T01:42:00.000-06:00Thanks Jess, I had read up on cataract before. The opaqueness comes and goes (eye drops) so I'd hope its that latter case. Apart from that she's in good condition :)

did you guys consider my comment for the snake fencing? The only 'treatment' for cataracts is to have them removed surgically. It is expensive but something I would consider in a young dog with a long life ahead of him, especially with bilateral cataracts. Our old dogs will likely die before their cataracts get bad enough to obscure their vision a great deal.

Older dogs also get something called nuclear sclerosis, where the lens looks opaque or cloudy. This doesn't usually cause a problem with the dog and is a normal condition of aging.

JessAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68327275018045829.post-64725985888840458962008-07-24T05:15:00.000-06:002008-07-24T05:15:00.000-06:00How much do you like drawing the Thundercats, whic...How much do you like drawing the Thundercats, which is your favourite to draw and would you ever draw them again?
Did you really think that the dogs should have won the Dogs of War series?
If you had only have one type the rest of your life, big or small dogs and why?
Museum of Natural History is now offering a full size replica of a T Rex skeleton, how keen would it be to own that?
I notice you don't do a lot of insects in your anthropomorphic sketches, what do you have against them? *cackle*
What is the most number of dogs you've ever owned at one time. You seem to read up quite a bit so I wondered if you had subscription to some journal?
Secondly, did it ever occur to you to start up some dinosaur comic, either something in the style of Raptor Red or the classic Cadillacs and Dinosaurs? Also some dragon sketches would be interesting to see :)
Finally a dog-related question for Jess, have any of your dogs ever developed cataract? We simply could not get much work. Our house in Florida went into foreclosure so we planned, very carefully I might add, to move to the middle of nowhere and build a cabin to keep our monthly expenditures down and keep our dogs. Brett had another five issue Thundercats mini lined up that would have paid for quite a nice little set up. When we got to the middle of nowhere, Brett learned that Warner Brothers decided they wanted a different artist (Thanks, WB, you suck) and so we ended up living in our van for almost a year. It was unpleasant but allowed us to keep our dogs.

We live in Texas, BTW.

JessAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68327275018045829.post-11996673323022302222008-07-23T19:33:00.000-06:002008-07-23T19:33:00.000-06:00What do you do to get the creative mojo flowing? What do you do to get the creative mojo flowing?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-68327275018045829.post-15411246466350467192008-07-23T16:49:00.000-06:002008-07-23T16:49:00.000-06:00Not to get personal but i always wondered what hap...Not to get personal but i always wondered what happened that made you and jess quit comics for a while and move out to arizona? However, you've also mentioned that you'd like to draw the Flash, so is there any circumstance where you might one day reconsider your non-superhero stance -- like if they offered you the Flash, for example?DamonOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04567271838563386766noreply@blogger.com
