I don't know what kind of bugs these are but we call them helicopter bugs, because they look like small helicopters. When these two flew in and landed on the fence I thought at first it was a dragonfly, but on closer inspection it turned out to be mating helicopter bugs. The upper one is snacking on a dead bee.
The look like dragonflys. We get them around here (st. louis) a lot.
ReplyDeleteHi Cryostar,
ReplyDeleteI did look them up before, I think (I can't remember exactly and I'm far to lazy this morning to look them up!) they're flies. We get them buzzing around, they can get big.
But they do look like they could be dragonflies as well. So I'm not 100% sure. I guess I need to check into it when I get some free time:)
Best,
Brett
This is about the time I wish for a graphically based search engine. Just feed it an image and have it tell you what it is. :)
ReplyDeleteSex and food at the same time...Score!
ReplyDeleteIf those are flies, damn, i guess everything in Texas is bigger :)
Jess is right-- robber flies, predators on other insects.
ReplyDeleteThey even attack and eat bees! I've seen them in Maryland too, they are huge and UGLY.
