And God said SUE!

So a fellow comic artist and Atheist by the name of Martin Wagner, creator of the comic Hepcats, has had a lawsuit filed against him, by a creationist. And why has this happened? Well this creationist posted something on Richard Dawkin's web page about 'proof' of gods existence. Basically Martin ripped him a new one and hurt his feelings, so much so that this 'man of god' accused him of being a drug addict and a pedophile by altering Martins wiki page (I actually saw the changed page, it has since been changed back.) You can read all about it on the blog Martin made to give you all the juicy details;)

So this creationist has filed a lawsuit against Martin, and Martin is fighting back with his own suit. But lawyers cost money so if you read his story and want to help out, he's giving away a t-shirt with a $15.00 donation. I don't know him but after reading everything that happened I am happy to help him out:)

Best,

Brett

Suing someone over a difference of opinion is silly. Matt has presented a very thoughtful argument against the existence of a creator, but it would be easy enough to go through his logic and rip it to shreds as he has done to Yomin Postelnik's post. It gets tiresome and eventually it ends up like two sets of parents judging who has the cutest kid (why of course my kid is cuter than yours.) Most of the time you end up arguing against someone who is parroting someone else or worse just points you to a goofy dated website like talk.origins. thinking they can rely on someone else's thinking to do the work for them. Anymore I try to limit my spent on such fruitless interactions. Usually you can tell from someone's tone if they are going to give you an honest listen. If they are spouting obscenities and name calling why take part in an empty discussion with them? Obviously anyone who takes joy in ridiculing another’s beliefs is not nearly as interested in a logical exposition as they would like you to believe. They are taking it personal and making personal attacks. Usually you will notice it is the religious Naturalist who is trying to belittle the religious Theist, usually with taunts of Spaghetti Monsters and enough straw men to fill a Scarecrow convention hall, oh brother. Is there proof this Yomin dude changed Matt’s Wikipedia entry? That is really cruddy if he did so.

Steve, we'll have to agree to disagree about 'proof' of a creator, since there has been no scientific evidence ever provided. And ID is not science, science deals with the natural, when you add god or a creator into it, who has power outside of nature, it stops being science and becomes religion. The article listed on this blog gives a pretty decent idea where religion might actual come from, a fear of death. http://stupidevilbastard.com/index/seb/comments/death_is_difficult_to_imagine/

But the point is that this creationist went overboard and edited his wiki page calling him a drug addict and pedophile. Martin's evidence for this is well beyond shadow of the doubt and just points to this creationists lack of computer knowledge, thinking he can't get caught because he's on a computer. The religous part is really not important it basically one guy getting pissed off and trying to screw with the others reputation and when caught, lies and then sues the guy who he screwed with.

I saw the changed wiki page, the person who changed it had the same IP address as Yomin. If you go to Martins regular blog:
http://atheistexperience.blogspot.com/

You can read all the details and evidence.:)

Oh and anonymous, please sign you comments so we know who we are talking to:)

Who is suing who? I originally thought YP was suing Matt, but now rereading it sounds like YP simply sent a cease and desist letter. YP does seem a little off his rocker. Why invest so much time into setting up blogs and such when it would be easier to put the energy into dismanteling Matt's arguments? I'm not sure what YP is hoping to prove.

Millitant atheists aren't going to be won over with strong arguments let alone weak ones. It is primarily a matter of the heart, not the mind. You can't change someone's heart by arguing them to death. Most IDists don't act like this, and certainly the majority of Creationists don't either.

Doesn't YP see this is a atheists dream come true?- All Matt has to do is get as much press on this thing as he possibly can and he can paint all Christians as nut jobs. The next time when ever anyone wishes to have an honest discussion with Matt it won't happen because all he has to do is bring the YP incident up and close himself off from even considering anyone else's point.

Sad and bizarre, but thankfully most atheists have at least one Christian friend who shows them this isn't how we normally handle disagreements.

Steve,

I believe the Creationist guy sent the C and D and wanted Martin to publically apologize and foot the bill or he would 'officially' sue. The C and D cam months after everything had happened and everyone had moved on. Martin just got fed up and went on the attack. you know the saying about the best defense...

ANY Atheist isn't going to be won over with ANY argument. We want EVIDENCE, not more of the same so and so feels this or god has entered her heart. We want testable facts and until those are found most won't change their minds. even is they do find evidence for the desert religion god, I will believe, but I will never worship.

The reason I keep saying Creationist INSTEAD of Christian is because we know not all Christians are creationists. And also to show that this guy is off his rocker.

No, most creationists or IDers won't sue and most Atheists won't either, you can't have a debate and then sue the other guy for disagreeing with you, nothing would ever get done;) But again I don't think what has happened is because of religion vs. non religion. I think the Creationist is just one of those people who use lawyers to get his way and this time it backfired on him. He's a bully and needs too be treated as such.

Best,

Brett

Oh, and what's the difference between a 'Militant' Atheist and a regular one?

Just curious,

This brings me to a question we were talking about the other day here. People of greatness seem to always have a personal nemises. (know I butcherd that word!) lol. That perticular some one that seems to spurn you on aggrivating you and bringing up your creative juices. Eo you have one and who is it?

Hi Joannie,

A nemesis....hmmm. Back in the day it might have been some of the guys I used to work with who later became more successful. But since they work in what is basically a different field than I do now, I don't think I have one. I don't have close friends in the comic biz anymore (I have a few old friends but we don't see each other much.) I don't really need to upset too get the juices flowing, I just need to get inspired. That can be done with a cool deign or a new dinosaur or animal I didn't know about.

There are a number of people I dislike in the comic biz, but since I don't associate with them ever it's more like someone you didn't like from school. You don't even think of them until someone else brings them up:)

Best,

Brett
