This Sunday: Attack!

Well, it's the 26th and I can stop being nice;) Let's see, so much good stuff this week. We have Hitler and the Nazi's celebrating Christmas. How festive! But I guess it means nothing as they aren't True Christians.

We have those funny old Muslims trying to outdo the Christians in their hypocrisy! Of course you'd never see Muhammad molesting a child... oh wait..

And to liven things up, some funny cartoons... Well, I thought they were funny.

And then a few other things. Josh Brecheen a newly elected creationist from Oklahoma want's the schools to teach creationism again. It's an interesting post because the comments in red are from an actual biology professor. Shows that you really shouldn't argue against something if you don't know anything about it.

And then this news that Christians are now the minority in Britain (at least in that pole.) Exciting!

But what really blew me away this week. A new hominids called Denisovans! Do you remember that single finger bone they found in Siberia? Well they managed to sequence it and low and behold it's a new species, related to Neanderthals! It even interbred with humans in the area! How cool is that, we have a DNA sequence BEFORE we even have an idea what the hominid looks like! To fricken cool! SCIENCE!

I am curious, how the creationists will explain this away? Since the DNA says there are other species that look like homo sapiens but aren't doesn't that mean they were in the Garden of Eden as well? Funny that they aren't mentioned, or is this were Cain and Able got their brides? Then I guess that would mean that humans as a species were never perfect.

Brett

Quick Seasons Greetings!

Apparently Santa has come down with food poisoning, bad shell fish. So Jesse Quick has stepped in to lend a hand! I hope everyone has a nice holiday, due to the broken leg of a certain dog I think we'll just settle in for a day of movies and the Doctor Who special.

Happy Holidays from Brett and Jess

Also this Sunday: Religion and it's 'handle' on logic!

I just read this on Pharyngula

I've been told that religion is the only real way to logic before. Well if this is your 'logic' I can see why you don't understand evolution and science... Epic Fail!

2 this week, since I missed last week;)

This Sunday: The Elves Must Die!

It looks like those pesky religious types are at it again! I'm not going to comment on this, you can't make shit up this funny!

It's time for the annual War on Christmas mantra. Ugh, just so everyone knows we Atheists don't really care that the Christians co-opted a few holidays, we don't care if you say Merry Christmas, we don't care if you want to sing Christmas carols (although most are horrible, I do actually like a few.) We prefer to say Seasons Greetings or Happy Holidays because we understand that not everyone is a Christian celebrating December 25th. Some are celebrating Yule, Saturnalia, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or simply using the 25th as a day they get together with friends and family to exchange gifts (you co-opted the date, why can't we?) So, to be inclusive Happy Holidays takes care of everyone. Stop being so fricking selfish;)

I know you like to think that Jesus is the reason for the season, he's just but one.

I should have a new cover to show tomorrow:)

Brett

This Sunday, an ARK Encounter!

This is more for my amusement than anything else. Ken Hamn has decided to add an amusement park to his super cool Creation Museum! It's even got a real ark!!!! Of course, it's not in the water as studies have shown the ark that was described in the Bible would tip over very easily in even small waves (yes, yes we all know god 'guided' them to safety... of course he killed everything else, so would you REALLY want to put your trust in a guy like that?) But it's close!

Here's a writeup from what sounds like a possible repeat visitor.

After reading that again I guess that's actually a poe! But don't worry Christian Soldiers one of your own sent that bastard and email and ripped him a new one! He won't be part of your Martyr Complex anymore! Enjoy:

Ark
This is a CHRISTIAN NATION if you hooked nosed kikes dont like it then get the hell out. If it were up to me we would have camp agin for you Christ Killing piles of human sh*t. You things are like acid on society you constantly corrode it with your porn, affirmative action, civil rights, fake funny money federal reserve, being totally morally bankrupt, yourselves all of you together are less than pile of dog sh*t. Like CHRIST SAID John 8:44 you are of your father the devil, you are not of God. I will be so glad when you tares are pulled up from among us THE WHEAT and cast alive into hell...........GOOD RIDDANCE .

Charles you are a stellar example of what it truly means to be a Christian Soldier. I salute you (from a safe distance as you might explode with rage... or more likely, the stupid!)

Finished with Larfleeze, and just finished the cover to JLA 56, I'm supposed to start issue 54 on Monday:) And I might have a new image for you later today. Hazzah! It's like X-mas!

I hate December!

It's the worst month for comics as the printer shuts down for weeks, and so everything needs to be done sooner. I was just given the deadline for the Larfleeze project and let's just say I'll be eating, sleeping and drawing until the end of next week. This means I won't be able to play until then:( So, if you don't hear from me that's why. Back to work!

This Sunday, I want answers!

Via Pharyngula. Nice to see that turn the other cheek saying doesn't actually apply to these Christians. This is Hate Mail sent to Richard Dawkins, which he read an posted.

What is the one thing that Religion promises but never actually delivers?

Answers.

Oh they think they are giving you answers when you ask them questions, but they aren't. And of course if they can't answer it they pull out their trump card…. drum roll please….. "God works in mysterious ways." Or, their new favorite "we can't know the mind of God."

For me, the whole point of religion is to explain were we came from, to provide answers to all those why's floating in my head. Yet it never does. Why is the sky blue? God made it that way is NOT an answer (Light reflecting off the water in the atmosphere is;).) Why is the grass green? (Chlorophyll in the grass.)

Of course when this is told to a true believer (I may owe Stan Lee money now) they tell you that you simply don't understand Gods plan or how he works. AGH! Those aren't answers either! OK, explain it to me. Oh, you can't explain that either? Well where the hell do I get my fricken answers then?

This is my favorite 'answer' to that question. "One you join God in heaven, all will be explained!"…. WTF?!? How is that going to help me when I need help now? Who provided answers to the other questions I asked? (And answered.) What can tell me what I need to know?

Science.

Sure they don't have all the answers yet. But for the small amount of time science has been used, we've learned a lot. Were humans come from, how old our planet is, our universe.  Why this and why that. We can even use science to show how those pesky religions with their non answers are wrong! Of course the true believers ($$$here ya' go Stan!) refuse to except this, they'll use all the medications and happily play with all the benefits that science provides, but if it dips into their closely held beliefs then it's wrong!  It sounds something like this:

"Why is science wrong?"

"Because! "

'Because Why?"

"Because the eye is so complicated! it's perfect! It could only be designed!"

"Really? Then why do I have to were glasses? Why is there this huge blind spot? Why is the image upside down and my brain has to flip it over?"

"God works in mysterious ways."

Thank you! I'll be here all week!

Brett

Will YOU be picking up my JLA run?

Over on Comic Book Resources they have a poll in a thread about me 'taking over' (I don't consider 4 issues 'taking over' more like a long fill in) the JLA.

I wish I was able to post some of the art since the stuff they've been showing is fricken old ( X-men, and an OLD Batman commission, really?) Online polls are crap so, head on over and vote if you want, bashing me is ALWAYS fun to read so have at it!

I've been told Batman /Superman 78 shipped this week with my Huntress/Powergirl story. I'll see if I can find out for sure:)

This Sunday, the original sinners!

I don't want to really get into the 'gays' are evil dialogue again. But I saw this and had to post it:)

Anyways, on to the topic at hand, Original Sin! Basically because Adam and that evil, evil temptress Eve ate a fruit that God said they couldn't (for someone who 'created' humans he appears to not know them very well.) For this egregious act God tosses them out of the Garden of Eden and curses them to grow old and die. Ok, a bit over the top (well WAY over the top.) But why did god also punish ALL the other animals? Sounds kind of mean and over reactive, not something an omnipotent being would do, but what a pissed of parent would (at least for a bit, they would even eventually relent. You know, since they have compassion for their children.)

So now EVERYONE/THING  on the planet is cursed to die, T. rex's are now free to eat everyone (instead of the coconuts that the great Ken Ham tells us;)) But it's worse than that. All of Adam and Eve's descendants are now also cursed… WTF? We're being blamed for something we had no control of or knowledge of? How is this fair and just? All of this because a fruit might give the human knowledge? (I would say this is NOT the case for most humans;)) Come on! Seems like god wants people to be stupid and simply obey (I will not make the joke, I will not make the joke, I WILL NOT MAKE THE JOKE!) I have a hard time believing this guy is all powerful when he keeps doing stupid things like this. But I guess I got more of the original sin taint than others;)

Dear Anonymous:

Brett has been making a living in the comics industry for almost twenty years. He has three projects going with DC. His dinosaur illustrations have appeared in a scientific paper, a book, and on major news outlets this year.

I have a successful run on Anita Blake. My breeding program is going exactly where I want it to go. I've angered some members of the Saluki community so badly that they wrote me up in an international magazine.

And we're supposed to be bothered by a jealous coward who is literacy challenged (read the blog policy)?

Troll.

And your threats? We live in a Castle state. Bring it.

Love always,
Jess

SHAZAM! It's Captain Marvel!

A quickish sketch I did while watching TV. I have put some comment moderators in place. Once again an idiot child has ruined it for the rest of you. Now you see why we don't have kids;)

This Sunday is FLAMING!

So the truth comes out! Like all republicans of power, Jesus had a homosexual relationship and the whole 'god hates fags' thing is just an elaborate cover up! How ingenious!;)

Seriously, I have no idea were I got this but at least there's an email address!

I was going to put this up last week but I simply forgot! but I did want to talk a bit about this 'free will' crap. Free will isn't really free if you disobey someone and they kill you for it. Case and point:

Genesis 38:8-10 – “Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Lie with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother.’ But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother’s wife he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so he put him to death also.”

So because he used his free will to NOT impregnate his brother wife (the whole thing is kind of sleezy to me but I guess my human based morals are to blame.) He's killed for it. At least that's the usual interpretation.  (I get something else when I read it, I wouldn't kill him for it, but a beating... yeah.) So back to the free will thing. How is that really free will? Sure he had the ability to not do something in the story but he's KILLED for it by that ever loving god guy. The point of the story seems to be, yeah I gave you some free will but if you use it, I KILL YOU! Taking it away with threat of death. Ugh. How can people by into this stuff? It's like the worst soap opera I've ever read!

Of course that's the so called Christian 'scholars' version. I personally think this has NOTHING to do with that, and that he was killed for screwing his brothers wife for the fun of it and NOT impregnating (like he was supposed to) her so he could keep doing it. Of course I'm sort of surprised he didn't kill the wife as well since you have to figure she knew what Onan was doing. See, sleezy soap opera! And how those super crazy religious people get no masterbation out of this STILL baffles me. That's some fast talking!

Why didn't it fall on a Sunday?

In case you live under a rock... or have an IQ higher than 12, I guess you missed the absolute wonderfulness of yesterday. It was Creation Day! Yes 6013 years ago yesterday the Earth was created out of nothing... of course I wonder how the Egyptians were able to have a civilization without a planet... or without existing yet... But that pesky science (in this case Archeology... that's old History right?) must obviously be wrong since this old book really has all the answers. That's what this guy told me, he was really nice so it must be true.

Of course, besides the Jewish sects and the other 37,999 Christian sects, YOUR sect is the real one... cause they told you it was... OR better yet you KNOW it is because you feel it in your heart... Yeah, that's better than testing and retesting stuff. WAYYY better. Now I have this new cancer treatment that will cure any other disease as well. Just drink motor oil. It's made from dinosaurs and sharks and they never got cancer or diseases. What more proof do you need! Well how about if I told you GOD told me it worked! I read it on a website (the books of today) and they said God said it worked. See it's been proven by God!!! Why aren't you storming the auto parts stores buying it yet?

Best,

Brett

I most likely won't have time to play this week, but I had to give you guys SOMETHING, after the whining of last time;)

Congorilla/ Starman Special... sketch?

Done REALLY quick on the computer, just so I'd have something new to post. My deadline for this book is this coming weekend so I'll be pretty busy this week. Anywho, these are the 4 main characters, Congorilla, Starman, Animal Man and Rex the Wonder Dog. Only one guy's wearing tights:)

Science and Religion compatible? Not this Sunday.

Here's an opinion piece written by Jerry A. Coyne. It's quite interesting, lays out why religion and science don't work and it also has a great article on how morals originated (Psssst... no god needed, surprise surprise.)

And I'm still waiting for that evidence of Gods existence. You've only had four thousand (+ or -) years. I figure you'd have to have something testable by now (feeling it in your soul doesn't count as souls don't exist. And if you're going to claim they do, you'll need to show your work for that as well... ie; evidence please.)

Also, famed ID proponent Micheal Behe's son has come out as an Atheist. I'm not 100% sure this is his son but if it is... OH SNAP! IT'S ON NOW!.... Of course, I really don't know what that means but I'm guessing it means.... SOMETHING;)

Well Crap!

Serves me right for trying to hard. Just turned in a DPS and on it is a shot that refers to another book. The description was flying heroes around a shield thing in DC. So I took it upon myself to draw a bunch of flying heroes... Unfortunately some are either not there or inside the shield so I had to swap some out. These are the one that got swapped, so since they aren't in the book I can post them on a technicality;)

Atheists know about Religion? Must be Sunday!

So a new researching thing has shown that Atheist know more about the religious' religion than they do. Funny! I think I might have taken part in that, not sure. I know I answered a bunch of questions for a study awhile ago... If so I may have skewed it towards the stupid;)

And then there is this, a challenge to all those sanctimonious religious fellows who keep bragging about the proof they have.... Well this guy's calling you out. So answer him these questions... one. She him the proof! You talk big but we have yet to see any actual evidence. So here's your chance theists, put us in our reasonable places! Have at you!

Just a side note about posting your evidence here. Unless it's real evidence, I don't want to hear about. I don't care what your cousin said or hear. I don't care about the voices in your head (PLEASE have that checked out!) I want some physical proof. You know, weird Jesus blood from the shroud, freak DNA that can't be explained by any actual scientists, you know the boring stuff that can be measured and tested and that doesn't interest you, but might actually make a case for your crazy thinkin';)

Old Backlash Cover

I just wanted to clarify something I said last week. I'm not mad at WS for closing shop, actually I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, low sales will do that. I was just sad to see it go. And when I said "Don't change stuff just change stuff." "Lets give him black hair because it cooler" is what I'm talking about. I understand that to get WS to fit into DC (if that is indeed what they do,) some changes are going to be made. I'd love to be a part of restarting the old WS if they go that route but I also understand some new blood and a fresh look might be in order. I have actually toyed with the idea of restarting Backlash before. We got stuck doing some things with the character I wasn't happy about, because well, BL wasn't a major player, so we sort of got tossed to the side, universe wise. What am I talking about? That Diaz guy from the first Kindred (BloodMoon) was originally supposed to be Grunge's father form Gen 13, but after we drew 2 issues of Kindred it was decided to change him to someone else. For a time BL was Zealots son, which is why we brought the Kheribum stuff in, when the powers that be decided to make Winter from StormWatch Zealots son we had to scramble like we did with Diaz to come up with something to cover our asses. These things happen of course so I'd LOVE to get a chance to do it right, or at least righter;) And Wildcore... we'll just forgot about that shall we;) And I'm still not quite sure what we were doing with Taboo's outfit. I think that was an attempt to bring in some WetWorks elements. It's been awhile.

Of course lightning doesn't always strike twice and it might be a horrible idea!

Backlash Version 3?

With all the talk about the lose of WildStorm (I still remember trying to come up with the name for it. We did try for First Light as we were always up so fricken late;)) and the talk of possibly rebooting the characters or at the very least plopping them into DC proper. I thought a bit about Backlash and what I'd like to see done with him. I had an idea about that a few years ago so I sort of cheated, but here's a first idea sketch I did up yesterday. Please remember this means NOTHING. I have not talked to anyone at DC about this, it's just wishful thinking.

Anywho, I think it might be a tad complicated, I have a slightly more simplified sketch on the drawing board that I might get to today, but I wanted to do a Kevin picture as well so we'll see.

Squeee!

Backlash mourns, Taboo... not so much.

I received a bit of bad news yesterday, Wildstorm will cease to be at the end of December. Go here for the details. While WS and I didn't always see eye to eye, a good part of my life happened there. First pro work, met Jess there, learned the ins and outs of comic production. So it's with mixed feelings I write this, sad to see it go, hoping that the old WS might see a resurrection in the DC universe. Hoping that whoever does something with Backlash doesn't change stuff just to change stuff.

Good bye Wildstorm, you will be missed.

Character Sketch

Well I finished the PowerGirl/ Huntress story yesterday. So now I'm just waiting for the Larfleeze script and another script for another one shot. I wish I could post some art but I can't until it ships or they post it on one of the news sites, which they might not do. So I'll try to do a few sketches this week. And maybe finish up that robot design I did. But for now, a character design I drew a month ago.

Garrrrr!

Today be Talk Like a Pirate Day, so get to talking like a Pirate or I'll be keel hallin' ya! Arrrgh!

It's Sunday, can you smell the Nazis?

I thought this was a dead subject, but it was brought up again so here are a few handy dandy things about Nazis and religion and Darwin:

I guess they weren't following Darwin after all... like I've said a hundred times. Why bring this up again? Well Sith Lord... I mean Pope Whatever the who gives a fuck, has decided that Atheists and Nazis are the reason for the Third Reich. Let's pull a Bush the Second and fear monger our way out of all those nasty molestation rumors and convictions.

So did Hitler's religion make him 'evil'? I'll say not really. Sure there was a TON of antisemitism around thanks to religion, but I doubt religion is the cause of the Nazis. Hitler was just a dick, it happens. But why post this? Because I'm sick of hearing how a non religion influences people when there is NOTHING there to influence. It's like saying I killed your Aunt because the air offended me.

And before I hear this, Catholics are still Christians, just like Sunni's are still Muslims, and the Irish are still white;)

Larfreeze Christmas Special

Colors by Andrew Dalhouse

Go here for all the details! Please note this is NOT from the book, just me and Andrew having a bit of fun:)

EDIT: OK, I was informed today that this IS now from the book:)

Merry X-mas,

Brett

Jade from GL Corps and the JSA

Just a quick sketch, working on another 8 pager, a little past the halfway point. Trying to take it easy today, that con just wasted me. Any who, felt like I lost 'it' yesterday ('it' as in my drawing mojo, not my mind. I lost that years ago!) so I drew this up to sort of keep me loose.

It's my crap I'll burn it if I want to!

Over on Pharyngula there is an excellent post on this whole Koran burning thing. By giving in to these ultra religious monsters we are given them power over us. I had thought about burning the Koran AND Bible if this guy did it, but then I'd have to waste time buying the damn things. I do have another idea, draw up the major religious figures and then burn the art. I wonder if they'd get more pissed off than normal... The problem? I'd have to waste my time drawing them, although Buddah would be fun:)

Go read the article. It's not real blaspheme, just common sense.

Brett

Me at the con!

One of the guys at the Urban Myth table asked me if they could do a sketch... I thought they said for me but it turns out it was OF me. Looks good and I'm grumpy!

Thanks Joey!

White Lantern and more con news.

Colors by Andrew Dalhouse.

So yeah, I'm staying home today to take care of Jess and the Dogs, so no show:( I did just about make back what I spent on prints so that's cool. Thanks to those that came out, Jade and her friend (who I can't remember her name, not to worry I'm HORRIBLE with names.) We had a nice chat, I did draw her a sketch, but it was a dinosaur so don't feel bad;)

I officially broke my no super heroes fast on Friday. Started page 1 of a Huntress/ PowerGirl 8 pager for Superman/ Batman. I'll try to finish that off today since I'll be home now.

As for what's left of the prints, I have to send off some to Oezden with all the original art he got and then Andrew, who printed them up for me, forgot to keep some for himself. So, I have to get some out to him. I'll be sending off the rest to Derek Ruiz so he can take them to the big shows he goes to so look for them there.

Best,

Brett

Sunday of conversions and a bit of con news.

I guess those pesky Mormons can't have al the fun! Convert your dead friends to the totally coolest non religion around! Check it out here!

Found via Pharyngula.

Not sure if I'm going to make it back to the con today, Jess hurt her neck/back and can't do very much so I can't leave her for long periods of time. I'll see how she feels and decide then (plus that AC is KILLIN' my lungs, how do people live like that! I felt a cold down to my bones... I had to go outside an warm up!)

Ben,

If I don't show up, send me your address and I'll send you something to ink;)

Best,

Brett

Ep Con tomorrow and Sunday

Colors by Andrew Dalhouse.

OK, I'll be there (hopefully, the car has been trouble lately) around 10 tomorrow til 6 and then 12 to 4 on Sunday. I've got some small prints to sell off so come on over. I'm supposed to do a panel at some point, no idea when, or if my voice will hold out for that. So stop by and ask lots of questions about whatever!

Best,

Brett
