Layouts for finishers!

Every now and then I need a bit of help getting stuff done, projects get moved up, I get sick, stuff like that. So I wind up doing layouts for others to finish. I came across a few of them a few days ago so I thought I'd post them. These were for the Frankenstein GN. They are of Doctor Frankenstein (Helios in the story) in his mad scientist lab working on his monsters! A male and female fused together.

Feel free to finish them off and show me (if you email me please make them small!) you can post them and send me a link. Remember I do use finishers every now and then so maybe you can help me out and earn some spendin' money:)

Best,

Brett

Primal page 4

I think this is the last of the ugly pages... But I might be wrong;)

Baron, I can't find the cover for this on the computer, so the next time I have the external hooked up I'll see if it's there.

Primal Instinct

A failed werewolf comic. We only got about 12 pages done when we found out what the sales were. Of course my name was left off the adds (thanks Image!) so it wasn't that accurate. But after trying to deal with these guys we decided in true Cartman form, 'Screw you guys, I'm going home.'

I'll try to remember to post the pages in order:)

Be gentle, these are pretty old.

Get Yer Cyborg Name

From Laughing Corpse to Circus of the Damned

Yesterday I turned in the adaption for the last issue of the Laughing Corpse. In a couple of months I will be starting on the adaption of Circus of the Damned, which makes me happy because these adaptations are a lot of fun to do. Brett will be doing some covers for Circus of the Damned as well.

Fifteen Years is a Long Time

Fifteen years ago today, Brett and I went on our first date. We have been together ever since. In '97 we got married, but we don't celebrate our wedding anniversary, and I can't remember exactly what day it was. There are many things I would have done differently over the past fifteen years, but I would never give up being with Brett. He is not just my husband, he is the best friend I have ever had.

On our first date we saw the Lion King, which started a long tradition of seeing whatever animated movie Disney put out in June. We don't do that any more, movie theatres give me terrible headaches and I always have to pee during the movie, so here is Scar and the hyenas singing 'Be Prepared,' just because I find it amusing.

I love you, Brett.

This Looks Cool

I was on Brass Goggles, which I don't go to often, seeing as how dressing up in cool genre clothing is no longer a priority out here in the dusty, hot, dirty desert with dogs that leap all over everything (I hate skirts anyways), and saw this post on a new movie, 9. Very charming in a weird psuedo-organic kind of way. The trailer on YouTube does not allow embedding, but is another one that is better here. Looks to be chock full of Tim Burton (as producer) style goodness, check it out.

I have seen the cheese!

Thanks again to Tom who let me know this was restocked at Amazon. Oh, where to begin!

The scale in this drawing is accurate, these things were huge in the movie. I had really high hopes for the cheese in this movie. Alas, it just wasn't there. Oh it was bad, anyone who can read should have known that, but they didn't even try to take it to he next level. The plot, sonic devices trigger an avalanche in an old glacier, releasing the monsters who were frozen in battle. They mention the shark is a Megalodon (a large prehistoric shark, approaching 60 feet in length. They had thicker teeth than a Great White and a slightly rounder head.) A partial tooth is found in the remains of a whale. What they don't tell you is that a meg tooth averages about 6 inches across, they say the tooth fragment they have found would make it 10 FEET across. Oh and it can fly, it literally is about a half mile out of the water when it eats that plane, this is the best scene in the movie, if you have a low tolerance for cheese, stop the DVD here, I'm not kidding.

The main characters, are all scientists. Deborah Gibson is actually not that bad, here romantic lead is very stiff (a Japanese scientist who never actually speaks Japanese even in Japan and on board a Japanese sub!) and talks like George Takei. He comes over from Japan with evidence of a giant octopus that's destroying oil platforms at sea. The final scientist is Debbie's old Prof, who's sort of a recluse after some sub incident that's never mentioned.

The three are abducted by the US government and forced to help out. They show a shot of Treasure Island naval base in San Fran. And then the next scene show the same shot again along with the subtitle. They should have played with that a bit, you know next scene they name every location on the base they are at. Would have been funny, but they drop it. Debbie and the stiff have a moment of bow chika bow wow. And Debbie gets the idea to use pheromones to lure the creatures to 2 different areas, on in San Fran the other in Japan. They never say HOW they get he pheromones... but it works and the monsters take the bait. Unfortunately they escape and as a parting gift the Meg takes out the Golden Gate Bridge.

Debbie decides the next idea is to "Make them fight each other." So out come the pheromones and they try to lure the monsters back to the glacier so they can kill each other. I don't see why they have to go that far but I guess they only had a 45 minute movie and needed to pad it out a bit. There's some stupid mutiny thing on the main US sub (with Meg pheromones,) Debbie and her Prof escape to a mini sub thing, as the meg eats the sub. While the Japanese scientist is himself on a Japanese sub all speaking English, no Japanese with subtitles, just English... and everyone sounds like George Takei!

Basically the monsters finally fight and drag each other to the bottom of the sea. All the scientist survive and now appear to be looking for more giant sea monsters to fight... And with all the DVD sales, we might actually see them again.... but I'll wait on the next one.

Just once I'd like to see someone actually play to the cheese factor and make the movie fun, I can't believe all these movies get made by complete incompetents with NO actual sense of humor... Oh and Lorenzo Lamas is in this...he plays a bigoted US army guy. That's about all he does. Honestly they just hired him for his name, seriously!

More comic and dino news to come!

Best,

Brett

Save the University of Wyoming Geological Museum

Many, many, years ago I worked at Palomar Community College, in the Art Department, during a time when the state of California was having a severe financial crisis. Things were being eliminated or cut back on all over the place due to budget cuts. I was told during the semester that there was a strong possibility I simply wouldn't get paid (I was on a monthly schedule.) It was infuriating, because around that time or soon after the college started work on a new sports complex.

Now, I don't know if the rush to eliminate or cut back on the arts and sciences before the sports program is due to greedy administrators, seeing as how sports alumni tend to contribute financially more than other folks, or because really, why would the state care if students actually get an education as long as the sports team does well? Ignorant masses are easier to control and manipulate, after all, and we wouldn't want to turn out thinking scientific types when we can spew out a bunch of graduates with no critical thinking skills whatsoever, would we?

The administration at the University of Wyoming is including the Geological Museum in it's budget cuts due to reduced funding by the state. Please go sign this petition to save the museum. More from Dinochick, and HT to Pharyngula.

Plus, you know, kids love dinosaurs. Won't somebody please think of the children?

Alpha and Omega

This is the raw pencils I turned in for this project, I was just asked to do the cover for this GN and the next. Patricia Briggs was quite easy to work with. That's all I'm saying.

I'll post the next cover in a day or so Baron:)

Icky Insects: Helicopter Bugs

I don't know what kind of bugs these are but we call them helicopter bugs, because they look like small helicopters. When these two flew in and landed on the fence I thought at first it was a dragonfly, but on closer inspection it turned out to be mating helicopter bugs. The upper one is snacking on a dead bee.

The Wild, Wild West

This is where we live. It looks like this in pretty much every direction. There are no phone lines. No power lines. No city water. You must drive down twenty miles of dirt roads before you hit pavement. The roads will beat the crap out of any vehicle.

We run our house on solar. Cell phones work. Our water is hauled from the nearest town. You have to be pretty self-sufficient to live out here. There's no running off into town on a whim or because you forgot something at the store. Duct tape and zip ties are necessities. Getting someone out to fix something is either impossible or very expensive.

It's very, very quiet here. Unless the dogs are howling. Or the coyotes. It's pretty ideal for us. There are no neighbors for the dogs to annoy. No neighbors to annoy me.

The climate is very harsh. The last two days we've had 100F weather. It's dry, and the sun is brutal. It has it's advantages, though.

We get spectacular sunsets.
