This Sunday... this is the end! And some rambling thoughts.

Everyone can be an asshole. EVERYONE. Sure the religious right seems to have this on lockdown, look at how they are trying to force their religious views on abortion down peoples throats in Texas and other southern states. The Bible says nothing on the subject, all this is is stuff that God 'told' so and so, we all know that's true… also I have some really nice land to sell you in Florida! While they LOVE the 2nd amendment, they seem to skip the separation of church and state parts of the 1st, assholes right?!?

You'll notice I haven't posted a Sunday Blasphemy in awhile. Is it because some idiot Right Winger keeps trying to make me feel bad? He literally said "Think of the Children!". It was funny as shit! Unfortunately my old 'buddy' Steve decided to show up and 'defend' me.... lets just say he misremembered what happened and any hope of a reconciliation are gone.

Back to the topic! No, it's not due to whinny religious people, it's because the Atheist/Humanist movement is all over the place. They are attacking each other, they are showing they are no better than any other group. It's to be expected I guess, once you get enough people together this kinda thing always seems to happen. But me, I really just don't like hearing how X and Y did this, or said this when it's just stupid little shit. The unity that was once there is now gone. It's clan warfare and it's ugly.

So while my views haven't changed, I don't read about this stuff as much anymore because most of the people involved are, well…. acting like assholes. They preach one thing and then knee jerk like their religious counterparts. We all knee jerk, even me, but I TRY to stop myself. It seems like unless it's about evolution the Humanists/Atheists don't even bother to try. Twitter has become painful to read on occasions, I've already unfollowed a few people.

There is one thing, and guys this is about us. When a woman does something you don't like or calls you on some BS, DON'T start with the insults about her sex, sexuality or how often she sleeps with others. It makes you look incredibly stupid. INCREDIBLY STUPID.

Oh and skip Mountain Monsters, I watch 3 episodes and it's ALL fake. The tracks are planted, and are really badly done. The videos are fake, the Wampus cat was a puppet. It's legs were barely moving. And the calls are all pulled from other things, one was the T.rex in Walking with Dinosaurs. The other was done using a program similar to the one used to recreate the sound of Parasaurolophus. The hogs had been pre-killed, no blood from the claw marks and teeth punctures. NO mammalian predator has 3 toes, NONE of them. They basically use Finding Bigfoot as the base of the show and decided to find something, they just never seem to capture it! Which is funny, as they alone have found more 'evidence' than everyone else! WORST HUNTERS EVER! Skip it and watch Total Blackout, that show cracks me up!

So until something really irks me, Sunday Blasphemy is on hiatus.

I know some people don't like twitter but I'm always one it, so if you want to chat, hit me up on it! I just use the blog to post Sketch Saturdays now.

This Sunday, go read this!

Go read this!!!!

And then go check out this guys website!

Jerry Coyne has it as "The Republicans platform in one image." I wasn't sure I agreed with that and then I thought about it and well it really is the only thing the Republicans have actually made clear, Mitt and Ryan keep dodging all the other issues... Oh this and Obama's a bad president I guess... Idiots.

This Sunday, was 'God' a child and them crazy Mormons!

And this doesn't even mention the magic underwear;) And you're supposed to respect this? You're supposed ignore this insane BS and just sit quietly and not say anything? Do you see how crazy this is?

How you see Mitt right now is how I see all religion. I love the mythology behind it, but the faith people put into it without evidence? They remind me of that woman in the commercial for the car insurance. The one where 'They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true."

I also came across this... Was Yahweh child god? Interesting stuff, if true, it's a good place to start looking for a Yahweh's origins. I do love the part about Baal being his main nemesis in the Torah, yet Baal texts NEVER mention him. In this context it makes crazy shit he does in the bible a bit easier to understand. Doesn't change anything just explains a few actions.

OK, back to the grind for me, after this DPS 8 pages left of TT.

Brett

This Sunday, GIve me an 'F', give me a 'U'!

For you're viewing pleasure. Sums up my thought on Theologians quite well.

And then there is this gem about some REALLY stupid cheerleaders (I know, surprising!);P This actually bring up something that has happened to me on twitter a few times. Religious people claiming their right are being violated because they CAN'T put God in government. I was told gay marriage violated Christian rights! That's right. People doen't seem to understand that THEIR rights end when it comes to another person. This is why you don't see Atheists trying to pass laws that would ban people teaching their kids Christianity/any other religion or sending them to Christian Schools. We understand this is a secular country and even though we don't agree with these things it's your right to do them. So why can't the religious get this? Is it their over inflated persecution complex? A mind numbingly poor understanding of US history? Or is this more of their 'if we say it enough it will become true' trope?

I'll make it easy for you, YOU have certain freedoms, freedom of speech (except for yelling fire in a theater.) You have a right to practice WHATEVER religion you want, or a right to practice NONE. BUT, you don't have the right to inflict your religions ideas on other who don't want them. THIS is why all these stupid gay marriage bans are tossed by the courts, they violate another persons rights, their right to NOT practice your stupid ass bigotry laden religion. Because lets be honest, it's not because your book says this, it's because YOU have a problem with it. You're just using your book to hide behind. Their gay marriage does not effect you AT ALL.

Again, there is no evidence for ANY religion, so why should others be FORCED to follow something that is blatantly false? Yes, the US has a democratic voting process, but we are a republic. That means the many CAN'T vote away the fews rights. EVERYONE IS EQUAL, deal with it and move the hell on. The same goes for the animal rights jackasses who keep trying to take away our right to proteins that humans need to survive. Humans have been eating mostly meats for almost 2 million years. We have evolved to NEED them. If you don't like it, don't eat them, bitch all you want try to make me feel bad, I'll simply ignore you. I WILL not try to force YOU to eat meat like you are trying to force me to eat those twigs and berries I can't stomach.

That's all for this week

This Sunday, it's Blasphemy Day!

Today is the day you exercise your free speech! So Feck off!

Anywho, with all the crap going on in the Middle East over a lame ass movie ment to piss them off (and they totally fell for that, I'm sure the insults were subtle and well hidden too;P) I really haven't felt like bloggin' about it. Killing people over a movie or a few cartoons or a few remarks? Disgusting, this is what religion offers, so to quote Sam Jackson, "Wake the FUCK up!" If you can't see what's going on and extract that this is what the uber religious offer then you need to go back to school. You now, that thing that the uber religious are afraid of because you might actually learn things that makes sense and that will get you to question all the utter crap you've been told.

It also looks like Muhammad wasn't real. There is no record of him outside the Koran. And here's another interesting thing, Islam started 1,200 years ago, 300 years before Muhammad was said to have been born. So all they have is a book to back them up as well... That sounds familiar... oh that's right, just like Jesus!

Now back to reality, they found an 'ancient' stream bed on Mars! I used the bunny ears cause I have stream beds like that from THIS years rain on my property. Cool!

Best,

Brett

Edit: Since the idea of 'Moderate Muslims' has come up in the comments I offer you this (it was all I could find in a quick search:

Only Turkey and Jordan would be considered moderate as a country. After seeing how bad Egypt came out I have little hope for some of the other more oppressive counties.

This Sunday... fuck I hate people.

Just read this, about a bunch of religious zealot Muslims trying to burn a mentally handicapped girl for POSSIBLY burning a page from the Koran.

I have no words other than religion makes people fucking stupid. You take otherwise rational people tell them someone has 'hurt' their imaginary god or 'holy' book and they fucking flip out.... They are trying to KILL people!!! OVER a book?!?!?!?! We're only slightly better in the US, but people who burn bibles and the like do get death threats. We're just lucky the majority of the US is pretty darn lazy;P

Honestly I'm almost to the point of buying all the bibles and other holy texts at the book store and having a big old bon fire, just for the fun of it. Unfortunately there's a drought (although we've had a good bit of rain this year.) so I'm not sure if the burn ban is still in effect.

If your book is SOOOO damn important that it demands that you KILL people so it doesn't get damaged then maybe YOUR GOD should take care of that personally. After all these are HIS words right? Funny how he never seems to say anything or do anything about it.

This Sunday, a de-conversion story

I happened upon this via Pharyngula, it's a de-conversion story, quite interesting. No muss, no real fuss. What's really cool about it? She's an EX-Pastor:) And I learned that Saint Augustine was African. I don't think I've ever heard that, knowledge!

So go on over and check it out!

I've been so busy with the goings on at DC lately that I haven't had much time to ponder religion and the like.... Except for Chick-A-Fill-A or the proper name Chick-fil-A. I love their food, but due to their funding of anti gay marriage policies, I will not be eating their anymore. I'll miss you waffle fries!

This Sunday, some pholosophizing! Not really.

Maybe blaspheme to some, I never really got these type of questions because they are easily answered and really just show how arrogant people can be. Only humans can hear sounds, look at me I'm deep! Not really, just stupid but that might be from listening to all those 'Great' Theologians.

I read something in a comment the other day that got me thinking. Bible study doesn't really study the Bible. They have worksheets and what are basically Cliff's notes to it, that's what they study. And you don't actually study it, you're told what it means. Seems like they are taking their cue from grade school cause you know, that's the ONLY way you 'learn'. Explains all those useless TAKS tests and No Child Left Behind crap from Bush.

Anywho, no really good stuff this week. At least nothing I noticed:/

This Sunday, it's not just me!

A long time ago, well like 12 years or so. I decided one night to start reading the Bible just because I hadn't at that point. Jess had an old one so instead of reading a science book or something science fictiony I picked up the 'good book.' I think I got through 2 pages, maybe a bit more. It was just bad to me.

So a few years ago I found this site, actually run by atheists, where they were trying to read the Bible one page at a time everyday or every other day. I got to Genesis 21 or something before I stopped. It was just not my cup of tea, It was bad, completely wrong about anything close to the origin of life on the planet or indeed the universe itself. And it was BORING. So very BORING. I usually give books 50 pages or so to keep me interested, I rarely put a book down or stop watching a movie because it's bad. But I did with this, just like I did with the Flintstones movie (that got 10 minutes.)

This is stuff I've gone over before, but it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks the Bible is drek. Jerry Coyne over at Why Evolution is True has come to the same conclusion.  The funny thing is I love all those old crazy creation myths, they are kooky fun, but the Bible is just so blah, there is no style, no flare and it's main character? Wow, talk about weak and uninteresting. He doesn't do anything but kill people, where is the intrigue? The gripping back story? All the stuff about Lucifer and the war with god aren't even in the damn thing and they are by far WAY more interesting. Nope we get a co-dependent god who simply must have people worship him or he kills them, but they have 'free will'. Boy this sounds like the worst cobbled together image comic ever!

Anywho, there is also this amazingly stupid thing that the state of Louisiana has done. Oh The South, when will you come into the 20th century with the rest of the world..? Except South Korea, because the Christians got a hold of them as well and took out evolution in their schools too. Those Christians really do love forcing their views on anybody. Man, I'm really starting to not like them. Its like they want me to hate them because they 'love me'. I try to fight my xenophobic urges but they make it soooo easy to fall back on their bad habbits....

Brett

This Sunday.... I can't stands no more!

What a crazy week. That pretty much sums it up. I'm sure this is pretty incoherent, my mind tends to jump around a lot. Sorry about that.

So what happened? Well, I basically tried to force and answer to a question that I never get an answer for. It's always turned away or ignored. The funny thing is that I actually got PART of an answer though email. It only took 2000 words to tell me what it was. Basically, all that Leviticus stuff was only for those really religious Hebrews…. I didn't ask or want all the other information I got with it as it was just god loves you, moral from god and that love the sinner hate the since stuff they always peddle but don't actually follow. And that 'answer' leads to even more questions. Like why do you use it condemn the gays then? Why is it even in the Bible then is it's not for you? It's not an answer, it's just something you're told that you are supposed to accept. That's how religion works. When I ask why 2+2= 4 to science I get an actual answer, I don't get because God deemed it so. (we get that answer because number icons are what we assigned to amounts.) religion can't tell me why the sky is blue or the grass green. Or why may hair is brown and my beard is mostly red. It's can't tell me why I feel, or why I need to eat or why the Earth rotates or anything that's actually real.

Again, I got a partial answer, and we were conversing through the email… then for some reason the old Christian martyr complex popped up and then basically tried to turn the opposition (me in this case) into he bad guy, for censorship of all things, on the blog. Never mind that I had to pull out the big guns because a simple answer was not forthcoming. It's only something I've been asking said person for over 10 years…. what they had to say could have been summed up in a very short comment, but that of course doesn't give them the opportunity to preach how good their religions it, how right it is and how EVERYONE should follow it because it's 'God's word.'

Back to the 'answer'. I glanced at it, then I went and read parts of it again… and you know what I got out it? Insanity, babbling and magic. Not Merlin  magic, but smoke and mirrors magic. Just all sorts of stuff that's there to give comfort to the Christian writer, it doesn't explain shit. What did I get from this? That it really is just absolutely pointless to talk to the uber-religious about their religion. I knew this already, all the science bloggers say it, but thought maybe, just maybe some of the religious were different, I mean they have changed their creationist views to follow ID, MAYBE they can set aside their religion a bit? Man was I fucking wrong. I have tired to get a few people to actually think about other religions in the hopes that they might be able to use that thinking to examine their own religion. And what did I discover? A complete unwillingness to even do so. They have no interest in learning about anything outside of their religion. If this is what they are bringing to the table and then accusing me of not wanting to 'truly understand' their religion then it's a complete waste of my time to even talk to them. So I decided to stop.

It's actually just fricken unbelievable to me that people can actually think like this… To completely shut out any new or differing ideas… I mean sure, most new ideas are complete BS but some have merit and indeed they bring us forward as a species… But to ignore these ideas that explain how things work or show were we come from, or how we might expand our knowledge in the future, all to stay stuck in the past… a past that is full or death and oppression… It boggles me. But isn't that what I'm doing? By ignoring their claims am I tossing out what might be valuable information? Well I didn't ignore them, in fact I was part of their religion. But then I think about this. Their religion has been around in various forms for around 3,500 years. There is still not evidence to really support it, sure a few of the people might have been actual people and the places might be real in some parts of the book. But there is still no actually proof that the actions and deeds of these people and their god actually exists. We know parts are not true, there is no evidence for this mass migration of Hebrews out of Egypt, or of a great flood or even of an actual Jesus. All we have are stories in a book that say it's real. That's all. Conversely we have an actual scientific theory that makes predictions and have been proven to have merit for the last 150 years. It's something we can trust and has enabled us to move forward, to make vaccines and gene therapies. It's proven it works over and over again. And that's just ONE of the many parts of science that have shown us the world, parts that have been proven to work. Yet the proof of the truth of any religion has yet to be shown… it just makes people feel good but taking away their responsibility and telling them everything is gong to be OK. I'm not a child and while that might make me feel good it's not something that will in fact help me in the real world. So like my childhood dreams and fantasies it was cast off.

I'm still having problems with this inability of the religious to understand that I have no interest in following their book. That it means nothing to me, so why should I follow it's rules? It's fine if you want to, just don't expect me to just because you do… I'm beginning to think religion is sort of like the army and your individualism is the first thing they have to rip out of you… One of us… One of us… So they can't understand why you don't want to follow it. They simply can't process it. And when you try to point it out they simply reboot back to their 'original' happy place that religion is good.

I'm kind of happy I don't have any kids now… for them to have to deal with this…. insanity, this cancer of humanity… agh… Really I'm just disgusted, disgusted that people think that religion is a good thing when it oppresses so many people…. it tuns my stomach to think we let any children be forced into this, and its seen as a good thing… We truly are a fucked up species, that clings to it's ancient past of monsters in the dark and boogymen in our imaginations. We just call it something different now… like Job creators… problem solved. Gah!

I just can't do it anymore… I can't keep having the same conversation without he same person who has nothing new to add. It's pointless. So I asked them to not post on the blog anymore. We'll see if they respect my request. And no it's no censorship. You can post whatever you like on your blog. I simply won't go there. Simple.

This Sunday, 46% is the new minority!

So a new poll (a scientific one, not the usual internet ones that people crash;)) And it looks like all the people who keep telling me that Creationists are really just a SMALL fraction of the Christian population in the US are WRONG. It looks like 46% of AMERICANS are YEC. That's not a small part, OR a minority, that's almost HALF of the population. Scary indeed.

The other stats are, 32% believe in god guided evolution and then there are the people like me, who believe it was all random chance coming in at 15%.

Can you see now, why I do these Sunday Blasphemy posts? The god guided stuff isn't actually supported by evidence, that's more seeing that there is something to evolution but refusing to give up the good feeling of your religion. It's incredibly frustrating and a bit scary. Because that 46% can make way more religious people faster than the non religious people, we tend to have small families or none at all. Luckily there is that 3rd part of government that will protect the rights of the minority group.

There is a glimmer of hope, the 15% group seems to be on an upward trend... albeit a very SLOW one. In 300 years we might be 80%! Then you Christians better watch out cause we'll simply ignore you and make fun of you. You can keep your religion, we won't try to take it from you by making it illegal. It will still be a secular society.

 On another note;

I'm still waiting for Steve to post about why it's OK for people to be adhere to certain parts of the Bible yet completely ignore others... So Far I've been told my 'tone' isn't good and that I'm not up for a discussion on the matter. I've of course deleted those comments, just more dodging the question nonsense. He's not allowed to comment until he answers the questions. I wonder how it feels to have deity who doesn't agree with all your ideas as we all know I'm god here.

So in honor of Steve I have a video for you;)

This... rather late... Sunday, Dinojesus and some idiot...

Thanks for this Art!

It's almost painful to watch as her mind tries to cope with simple facts... Do you see now why religion keeps people ignorant? Religion is under attack, and it's not another group, it's logic and reason.

This Sunday, Why does God hate the Americas?

Something that always bothers me is the fact that these religions start with one man, or one sect in ONE place, and then they spread. If there was a god like being trying to, for lack of a better word, teach us, why through so limited means? Wouldn't sending lots of Jesus's or Moses's be far more effective? And it makes you think, what about all those other people in China and the Americas? Save a few, but fuck the rest of the world as I sit on my omniscient throne? Who really cares about them, as these select few or 'chosen' (who have shown to be complete idiots over and over again) are the ones I'll focus on. If we're all Gods children then why is there even a chosen people? He has favorites? Now that sounds a bit petty for a God. Why did he never reveal himself to anyone but a few and have them spread his 'word'? He would have to have known that his messengers wouldn't be able to get to certain places, why not send more? Why and why did it take so long? I mean if this is the word of God, why it is taking over 900-2,000 years to spread across the globe? It's not like humans aren't everywhere now. Why, upon reading it or hearing it, if it's so true is the reader not magically overcome with the magical god love?

But Brett you say, God works in mysterious way, we can't know the mind of God, blah, blah. blah... The Christian God appears to have favorites, he breaks his own rules and takes away a persons 'free will' (Pharaoh's) and then punishes an entire people for it. So he's a liar, and a mass murderer. He seems to like to watch people get tortured, making the Hebrews wander in a desert for 40 years, when it takes a matter of days to walk across it. Letting his 'chosen people get eaten by lions, and then knocking up a young woman and forcing her son to do YOUR bidding, which includes getting tortured and then killed. All to redeem the actions of a few people (who never existed) for eating a fruit you told them not to. A fruit, with some magic knowledge, and you punish them, and all their descendents. Of course they hadn't really been bad before so they really had no idea what would happen to them, but you punished them anyways. Huh, this god sounds a lot like the Greek God Zeus. Petty and temperamental, a bully in the classic sense with a whole lot of ego stroking needed. So can we really not know his mind? He sounds very human to me. In fact, completely human, kind of like a dictator and a bit like Hitler with his 'chosen' people. See what I did there, I tossed that Hitler crap back in your face! Served! And the Allah? Well it's funny how he ALWAYS has the same ideas as Mohammed, if Mo want something then suddenly Allah's OK with it. In a way it's even more outlandish to me than Christianity.

So if these 'gods' are simply peoples wants and desires then we sure as hell can know their minds. And they appear to be incredibly shortsighted, mean, violent and stupid. That sure sound like something I'd worship! Sign me up!

Oh, and think about this religious people. I know this will be hard as you never bother to even consider your religion's faults, or other point of view, but what if YOU were the minority religion and say the Muslims or the evil Gnusaders were the majority? What if they decided that only the Muslim faith OR no faith at all were the only legal 'religions'? You'd be pissed right, and thankfully our constitution protects the minority from the will of the majority so EVERYONE is equal. Then why are you doing the same fucking thing with your no gay marriage 'laws'? It has NO EFFECT on YOU so get off your fucking soup box and back the fuck off. It's disgraceful and disgusting, it's also illegal, unconstitutional and un-American.  And if you bring up any stupid animal shit I will find a way to slap you. WHatever 2 or 2 or 13 adults want to do in their own home is fine as long as everyone agrees to it. It's NOT your business. so leave it the hell alone.
OK, I feel a bit better not

This Sunday, the True KING.

Been watching Godzilla movies and decided to draw up my version of the King.

Nothing really new to talk about, just some stuff I saw on the Dead Sea Scrolls and that they don't always match up with 'real' scripture. Did some reading on Elijah. Funny how he, John the Baptist and Jesus did a lot of the same things. One might assume they were the same myth recycled;)

Also interesting is there turns out there are a TON of early writings around the time of Jesus, yet he's NEVER mentioned in any of them, births, deaths all sorts of stuff. And that 'Q" fellow the Christians love to tote about, there is no actual evidence every produced to back up the Christians claims of a 'Q'. Surprising right?!?!;P

Well, till next week!
