DI lies and whatnot

I'm really tired of listening to all this nonsense from the Disco Institute and Answers in Genesis. I will continue to post stuff about science and crazy ass religious stuff. But every time I get a comment that is basically ID or creationist nonsense. I will reply to it thusly. 'Your comment has been filed under 'N' for nonsense.' The IDers refuse to believe that the Disco institute is lying to them. They are renowned for this and so I give you this link, to a great video about the so called 100 Scientists who don't except evolution.

I have given studies/websites all refuting this ID crap but it falls on deaf ears. Actual scientists laugh at their ineptitude. Maybe when they can find an animal that is completely unique, with no DNA in common with anything else, that can't be traced to any other species I'll take them seriously. Because that is the only way they can prove their ideas. So until then I'll keep to actual science.

Edit: I thought this was interesting, over 11,000 Clergy Members in SUPPORT of evolution.

The Clergy Letter Project.....Signatures are current as of 15 May 2008
11,227 signatures collected to date

I watched this video and thought, at the end, "BURN! TAKE THAT!"

I'd never seen it put mathematically before, but that was neat. And the IDers call us liars and say we disillusion people. Ppft.

Honestly, a great book to read (I can't remember if I already recommended this one) is Intelligent Thought: Science versus Intelligent Design. It's got SO much information in it as to why ID doesn't work, I'd recommend it to everyone. Agnostics, Athiests, Christians, Jews, etc. Everyone.

It's gonna give you a new perspective on ID and how much it DOESN'T contribute to science. In fact...it pulls science away from itself by ways of les, controversy, and a complete disregard for seeking the truth.

But...I suppose the truth isn't truth unless it comes from the Word of God: a book not written by God, most of it written about people that had died hundreds of years before the legends (yes, myth and legend) was documented. The book that was written by man, that CALLS them FALLIBLE and unable to keep from sinning!

Okay...yeah. What makes more sense to you? We came from a common ancestor or every human on the planet was made from one dude and one chick (made from his rib btw). Bib proponents of incest, apparently. It just confuses me I suppose at how they still confuse the belief with the idea.

Check out Romans 6:35 - "thou shall not be a proponent of Evolution. 'Tis merely the lies of Satan that tries to confuse and direct you from the true, righteous path."

Erin,

LOL! I doubt any book will make me think even less of ID, but I'm more than happy to give it a chance! The fact that Dr. Bakker suggested it (a Minister himself) just makes my day:)

When I saw the video I was laughing my ass off. I like the Park Ranger, it sounds really bad but if you think about it I'd give him more credibility than a surgeon on matters of the natural world;)

I guess it comes down to do you want to be alone in the universe (uniquely created) or do you want to be part of the universe (evoloved)? the fact that we have almost the same genome as chimps and apes/ Neanderthals... to me the evidence is irrefutable. And when I got into evolution it was just with human evolution and it wasn't as interesting and diverse as it is now.

Brett

Yeah, I took a High School Anthropology class and that introduced me to the human/primate aspect of evolution. Now that I've gotten back into Paleo during and after my Junior year of high school, I've gotten into dinosaur to bird evolution.

Lol...park rangers. That just cracked me up that an IDer actually thinks that they can say that a park ranger can be an influence science because of their beliefs and have it be true. lol

Almost as good as everything has and always be as it is right now because things don't evolve. :)

Erin,

I saw this movie in 9th grade history about human evolution. It was great, a bit out of date but it got me interested. I read a few books in my 20's and then got back into dinosaurs:)

This is an interesting video.

"I am skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged."

The original statement is not undermined by the video in the least bit. Common descent and even some forms of evolution as it is taught are embraced by both IDists and Darwinists or Neo-Darwinists. Common Descent is not the topic here-undirected evolution is, I think part of the problem with this type of argument is that anti-IDists don't take IDers seriously so they never bother to address their actual beliefs and continue to argue against straw men. This is one of those arguments of semantics which seem to populate the ID vs. Evolution arguments. Still if someone wants off the list they should be taken off, regardless of how they filled out a questionare. The Discovery Institue needs to be held accountable for how they market their position and should be above any hint of dishonesty if they want to be taken seriously.

Steve,

The only reason that IDers beliefs are attacked is because they color the science. DI has yet to put forth any evidence to their claims. They just attack evolution and say things are too complex. That's it. that's their whoe argument. So they attack evolution without having anything to replace it, except god. What if evolution is false does that mean ID wins buy default? No, it just means it might be something else. Something we haven't seen or discovered. As you have said 'the same evidence that proves evolution can also be used to prove ID' But that's not true because the fossil evidence supports evolution and not ID. They can't piggy back their 'science' and just say god did it when it starts getting too hard, which is what they do. they need to produce actual evidence that support their specific claims and they have yet to do this. As I have said, show me an animal or even a plant, that is completely unique and can't be traced to anything else. Then we can talk about a creator. But that still won't prove ID.

That's the last I will say on the subject.

Brett,

I think you believe too much of what the anti-IDist camp prints. ID never says it is too complex so God must have done it. Now the truth is things are too complex for our current top minds to unravel, and they freely admit they don't have how evolution works exactly figured out, but that is hardly scientific proof for a counter theory. ID works on the same principles used in other disciplines like archeology to distinguish between the random and the designed. Anyways while looking for a video promoting ID I found this one attacking it, which I thought was pretty good since it takes pot shots at both sides:

I just found another video from the above guy :

http://www.whatyououghttoknow.com/show/2007/10/18/the-scientific-method/

Even though he says many of the things I have before I didn't help create this video. Honest I have nothing to do with him and I don't think he has ever stated his religous beliefs.
