Frankenstein Art on Newsarama

Go here

I hope this works it's acting funny. But if you want to see people toss out insults at me, go ahead it's always fun. Comic book geeks can be jerks, I will go after them if properly angered, dogs decided to get up early. I'm in a bad mood;)

Bestest,

Brett

Damn Brett, looks awesome. Great coloring too.

Just curious. Did you design all the characters your self or did you have direction from the publisher and writer?

And I didn't see too many stupid comments beyond the Michael Turner one-and you being a Jim Lee clone. Turner is my fav artist, Lee my 3rd, but I wouldn't really go as far to say your style is a rip off either one, most of all Lee's.

FYI, Booth is my 2nd fav ;) but I think I rip your stuff off the most, which is why I have two folders filled with your work.

Well I go off of what's in books. Then the Author gets to approve them. We made Helios older than my original sketch and we changed Maddison to a black guy since they are in New Orleans and everyone was white. Carson is now mixed race Irish/something else. But the Authors get to approve it all. I didn't have to make any changes to the art in #1 so the character designs work well:)

Once you let them know your there they usually stop the bitching. It's easy to make fun of someone who isn't there;)

#2, cool:) I've actually be hearing that a lot of people were picking up Anita just for the art. i hope it's not entirely true sine Jess is still doing the adaption:)

Best,

Brett

Ah, interesting. Not that different then what we do for concept design in games...only your's seems faster.

Was in comic store yesterday and saw a couple of Anita still on the shelves, but they seem to be selling pretty well still. In fact, every comic store I've been too have these little post-cards of your art for Anita advertising the hardcover for The First Death, but says Marvel on the bottom still even though you aren't doing the art anymore.

I've notice Marvel doing their normal act. Get a artist that looks like yours, but clearly not just to keep the Brett Booth crowd around, then after a couple issues, they'll get some crap cartoon-style artist to take over so the book can be rushed out every month. I love Marvel but they always replace great artist with so-so, then let the book fall with crap guys.

Ugh, Newsarama's comments section can get rather ... undisciplined. I generally try to avoid it myself, but sometimes my horrified fascination gets the better of me. Dig the art, as ever. :)

Laurell gets to pick the artist. I was told they sent over some samples and she got to pick. Ron Lim is a decent artist, he's been around far longer than I have:)Laurell get's to pick who works on the book, so hopefully it will look good for awhile:)

I like to poke the flamers on Newsarama. It makes me happy;)

Brett

i also wanted to say that i'm glad that brett didn't stay on anita after marvel took over. i think that sticking to your guns is the right thing to do and i patiently await your new frankenstien series.

i also have one question. i know your busy with your new series and from your posts you probably have an outstanding list of commissions but are you taking any more? i am a huge creature from the black lagoon fan and after seeing bretts dinosaurs in the kindred mini i am dying to see what he could do with the creature. if your bored and want to see some of the other art i have collected you can check here.

If you are too busy or are not taking commissions i totally understand. i just had to ask after finally finding brett after all this time. i'll be checking back in regurlarly to see all the cool stuff and dog updates. sorry this was so long.

Hi Frank,

Welcome and thanks for the compliments:)

It's a pretty small blog so you might be the 10th person or so to check it out;)

Cute dogs, I like the brindle one (I always wanted a pug or a bulldog but the snoring would drive me nuts!) Maybe I should start a posty thing for people to show off their pets...hmmmmm. I thought I took some shots of the dogs playing in the snow but NONE of them showed up. The damn camera hates me, I kid you not.

Steve's been trying to get me to do a Creature for awhile. I liked the first movie but I never was a huge fan of it, he does look cool, he's the best aquatic monster I've ever seen.

Sorry, I'm no longer doing commissions. If I do change my mind I'll post it here first:)

Again, welcome, don't be a stranger:)

Best,

Brett

Ah Ron Lim, he's a pretty good artist...not you of course...from my home town though so I've seen him at plenty of conventions here. Really nice guy. I hope he treats her good...Still though, I could have sworn the recent cover was yours.

Thanks for the response brett. believe me now that i found you i'll be checking in regularly.

thanks for the compliment on my bostons. i love them to death and they don't snort as bad as a pug but they do reverse snezze and that is bad enough. if you post more pictures of your dogs i'llpost more of mine.

as far as the commission no problem just thought i would ask. steve is a great guy he contributed a wonderfull creature piece to my collection.

i look forward to your next post.

I want to make it clear that I was the one on Newsarama who in jest called Brett a Jim Lee clone. It was sort of a joke I thought Brett would get a kick out of, I wasn't being serious. Brett used to get accused of being a Jim Lee clone, then sometimes an Art Adams clone, or a Todd McFarlane wanna-be. I've always thought he had his own artistic voice and he can wallop just about any other artist out there with his dino drawings.

How very dare you!;)

I got the joke, it put a smile on my face:)
