Oh my! No need for that! Just happy I found someone I can talk dino with :D.
By the way, here's that picture I promised you

I wanted to try a crazy concept but best keep it simple. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on it!

Looks pretty good. He looks a bit bulky but that more a personal preference than anything.

I'm always happy to talk dino. Of course I've been getting crap for drawing a Spinosaurus without the sail. You'd think I killed Jesus or something;)

Best,

Brett

Ha ha...killed the Jesuit Spinosaurus image. I personally like him with a reduces sail. I've never seen a Spinosaurus vertebra...so I'm not one to comment on an artists rendering of an animal that's lacking complete evidence of. :)

National Geographic also has a pretty good article on these dino's since Sereno is one of their main paleontologists.

I've read a bunch of the news clippings, I just wish I could get some good reference. Todd Marshall's drawings are pretty darn good for that:)

I'll be happy to be wrong about the sail, but until they find another vertebrae I won't be convinced.

Did you happen to see that Discovery Channel Resurrecting Dinosaurs? Pretty neat stuff, it didn't suck!

Best,

Brett

Shit, sorry i didn't get the follow up messages :S so you think its bulky? Erm, well I'd think maybe the stomach gave that impression (lets just say he had a good meal :P) But in terms of style; anything wrong? Any tips on improving?
I'd like to know how you make you drawings do clean? Do you ink it later?

Yea I read the article on the show, some new kid paleontologist found that dig site; apparently he'll be the wickness in some years.
Still, Walking with Dinosaurs did it for me. All others are carbon copies.

No problem, they don't always show up.

I always picture the Dilophosaurs fairly slender. They have a very narrow body so they look thin to me. Some people add more muscle than I do, that's more a personal preference than anything. The anatomy looked good. I'd really need to see more to see the style.

Clean huh, well it depends on what you mean. Do you mean without the structure lines? I used to have my art inked but since so many of the inkers would try to either change the rougher art or 'add' to it. I started penciling very specifically which didn't always work but did help at least a little. I do the rough, then erase it back so you can barely see the structure lines. then I go in and do the final line art. I scan it in photoshop7 and fuss with levels a bit to help clean it up some. Sometimes I use the eraser or the dodge tool but that's about all. Lots of practice, I've been drawing comics for over 15 years now, you learn a thing or two;) I have a tutorial on my DA site, it's for a super hero but I do it the same way with dinos:)

Best,

Brett
