They just don't get it.

I received this from DA it for the stolen art picture comparison, the side by side:

devart said the following:

The thing is since the artwork is stolen I OWN THE COPYRIGHT. SO I am in the processes of removing all my art on DA. The thing is you CAN'T just delete your account, it's a new thing they implimented when they changed things around a few months ago. So if you have stuff on DA I would recommend removing it ASAP.

Best,

Brett

You haven't been able to delete your account ever, it's not new. Urging people to leave due to sour grapes seems unprofessional.

Anonymous,

Yes you have, you were also able to delete your gallery. Stop trying to pick a fight. It's bad enough you don't have the balls to use a name.

How is urging people to leave a site that actively WON'T try to protect your copyright and in fact helps the theif, unprofessional? I don't care if other stay, but lots of my anthro fans are VERY protective of their rights it's just a warning that they are LESS protected than they thought on DA. It's a warning, nothing more. I've deleted all my art on DA so I won't be going back.

Don't be stupid. We've been on DeviantArt for six years. In the past two years it's gotten very bad, copyright violations right and left, we get at least two or three notices EVERY week of a ripoff, and extremely inconsistent 'enforcement' of their rules, like deleting one of Brett's anthros due to 'breasts' while letting other things that are clear violations slide. The dinosaur issue was the last straw, especially since the violation was extremely clear, and we are not ogres: we don't want the copied art taken down, only an proper attribution. We have made this clear on many occasions. Because I will NOT allow Brett's work to drive traffic to DA due to their stupid decisions, the art had to come down. A Google search of Brett's name or Demonpuppy brings up DA on the first page. I don't want traffic driven to them, they don't deserve it. Any artist who posts on DA takes a risk due to their lax and unfair enforcement of copyright issues.

this is annoying. i am sad to see you go, but they don't deserve the traffic you bring in. i am glad i still get to see you art here though.
also, is there a side-by-side comparison of the two? i am curious as to just how blatant and boldfaced it is.

good luck! Jon

Hi Jon, it's on this post:

http://demonpuppy.blogspot.com/2009/04/nanotyrannus-in-color-and-crap.html

It disappoints me that DA does not consider that a violation. It does not reflect well on their understanding of copyright law or their native common sense. Just because the image has been redrawn and not traced does not mean it's not a violation.

I agree with Brett on the deleting the account part. You used to be able to delete your account. I have been part of deviantart for 8 years. I don't understand the nudity thing. There is nothing wrong with it. However, there are worse images on deviantart. I remember seeing one of dragons having sex and being anatomically correct. No child-warning thing or whatever.

I've been a fan of your art for ages, but I just found out about this fiasco. I think it's ridiculous that your works were removed. It's obvious in the comparison which is yours and which isn't, and they shouldn't have had a hard time with figuring out what was the original in the first place. Most people replicate what's good as something to aspire to. Now, I don't think it's particularly wrong for the other person to try to draw the same image as you; after all, that's how a lot of people learn. I know I've done my best to replicate what artists that I admire have done before. However, the individual should have credited you as the reference, or, better yet, they shouldn't have posted it at all. After all, it should just be seen as practice to that individual and nothing more.

The ironic, yet unfortunate thing, for me, personally, is that I was about to ask you about your process for drawing dinosaurs. I'm a pretty big fan and I know a bit, though not nearly as much as you, but I'm at a loss as to how to start drawing them other than looking at the illustrations that others did. I wanted to know how you started to learn how to draw them and any tips you might've given. Obviously, after what's happened on DA, I don't blame you if you choose not to share your techniques.

Regardless, I'm still a big fan of your work, all of it, and I hope things get sorted out quickly for you.

Hi Azie,

I have a post I did last year on basic theropod anatomy:

http://demonpuppy.blogspot.com/2009/01/basic-theropod-anatomy.html

I can't stress enough Predatory Dinosaurs of the World, I just picked up a new copy a few weeks ago. Half.com had a bunch really cheap.

I basically have to transfer the more realistic style of others into a style I'm familiar with. It's not a complicated process. I do some research on the animal I plan on drawing, I do a sketch, full size on the board. I erase it back a bit and then I go in and do the final line work. I skip a lot of steps most people use since I've been drawing so long, and often. Comics teach you to draw quickly or you miss your deadlines and loose work:)

I'm happy to answer questions either here or on my dinosaur blog, Carnosauria about whatever.:)

Best,

Brett

I am so enraged. I adore your work... You guys are my inspiration - The people I look up to. Ohmigosh. *sighs* That's silly. If there was something, anything that I could do, I would. Also, is there any other way in which I could access your art? Like, here for example? How do I "subscribe"??
