It's Draw Muhammad Day 2011!
And As you can see I drew him in the most foul and evil way I could think of, black socks and sandals. It's been posted to the Flicker site I mentioned below as well.
And for all those religious nuts who think this is blaspheme, what about all these other images throughout history:
http://www.pagefarm.net/wiki/index.php?title=Muhammad
http://www.hf.uib.no/i/religion/popularikonografi/exhib02.html
http://mattstone.blogs.com/photos/christian_art_middle_east/muhammad-eads-abraham-moses-jesus-in-prayer.html
I don't care what any silly religion says about images, I do care that people are being killed an silenced for something as non hurtful as this. This is about free speech and standing up to those who would oppress it. Grow up and join the modern world, crazy religious laws do no apply to moving forward, only backward. This hurts no one unless some zealot decides to make it so, that is insanity, that is were religion leads. How can people not see that?
Oh, and any hatemail will be posted online in full view, names and everything.
Now, who's been raptured?
Best,
Brett

Old sketch
An old character design for Magicians Apprentice, a King I believe. Colors by Jess.
Working hard on JLA so nothing really new. I'm hoping to get the X-mas card/image done this weekend, but we'll see how that goes.

Old Backlash Cover
I just wanted to clarify something I said last week. I'm not mad at WS for closing shop, actually I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, low sales will do that. I was just sad to see it go. And when I said "Don't change stuff just change stuff." "Lets give him black hair because it cooler" is what I'm talking about. I understand that to get WS to fit into DC (if that is indeed what they do,) some changes are going to be made. I'd love to be a part of restarting the old WS if they go that route but I also understand some new blood and a fresh look might be in order. I have actually toyed with the idea of restarting Backlash before. We got stuck doing some things with the character I wasn't happy about, because well, BL wasn't a major player, so we sort of got tossed to the side, universe wise. What am I talking about? That Diaz guy from the first Kindred (BloodMoon) was originally supposed to be Grunge's father form Gen 13, but after we drew 2 issues of Kindred it was decided to change him to someone else. For a time BL was Zealots son, which is why we brought the Kheribum stuff in, when the powers that be decided to make Winter from StormWatch Zealots son we had to scramble like we did with Diaz to come up with something to cover our asses. These things happen of course so I'd LOVE to get a chance to do it right, or at least righter;) And Wildcore... we'll just forgot about that shall we;) And I'm still not quite sure what we were doing with Taboo's outfit. I think that was an attempt to bring in some WetWorks elements. It's been awhile.
Of course lightning doesn't always strike twice and it might be a horrible idea!

Backlash mourns, Taboo... not so much.
I received a bit of bad news yesterday, Wildstorm will cease to be at the end of December. Go here for the details. While WS and I didn't always see eye to eye, a good part of my life happened there. First pro work, met Jess there, learned the ins and outs of comic production. So it's with mixed feelings I write this, sad to see it go, hoping that the old WS might see a resurrection in the DC universe. Hoping that whoever does something with Backlash doesn't change stuff just to change stuff.
Good bye Wildstorm, you will be missed.

No Images of Muhammad!… er…. wait … it's Sunday!
Going in a slightly different blasphemous way today, enjoy!
For years we've been told that images of the 'Prophet' are not allowed, forbidden to it's Jihad time. Well this isn't actually true. You see there is nothing in the Qur'an that mentions this and this site, Zombietime, has a WHOLE bunch of nifty images from modern artist all the way back to old timey Islamic artists. Here are few bits I thought enlightening from Answering Islam:
"Numerous passages in the Qur’an prohibit idolatry, and worshipping statues or pictures, but there is not even single verse in the Qur’an that explicitly or implicitly says not to have any pictures of Muhammad. This bears repeating: There is not a single verse in the Qur’an that prohibits making or having pictures of Muhammad or people or animals or trees. In fact, there are some verses in the Qur’an which mention images in a positive context and which therefore presuppose that some statues or images were approved by God,"
From Dante's Inferno, Muhammad walks around with his guts out, yummy! And this one:
"Pictures of Muhammad are "not exactly" forbidden in the hadiths either. The hadiths do not single out Muhammad’s picture. Rather, in the hadith we find the prohibition of all pictures of people or animals, which would include pictures from a camera."
I guess the Christian aren't the ONLY ones ignoring parts of their holy book. There are even some comic book like pages taken from the Qur'an where the 'Prophet' isn't show in a flattering light.
Found over on Pharyngula.

14 (+ 1) Reasons Why Creationists Are More Intelligently Designed Than Evolutionists Paul DesOrmeaux
1. "Creationism" comes before "evolution" in the dictionary.
2. Radiometric dating has determined that Kirk Cameron is between 6,000 - 10,000 years old.
3. The banana has obviously been perfectly designed by a designer for eating and for using in other creative, non-edible ways.
4. Where the hell are those transitional species, like flying squirrels, for example?
5. If we evolved from monkeys, why don't we look more like the Planet of the Apes chimps?
6. Ben Stein offers a perfect example of irreducible complexity "wherein the removal of any one of the parts [such as dying brain cells] causes the system to effectively cease functioning."
7. Especially when filled with animal crackers, my Noah's Ark cookie jar is an exact replica of the real deal as depicted in my illustrated Bible.
8. Evolution violates the second, third, fourth, and any future laws of thermodynamics that science types can dream up.
9. If the earth were actually billions of years old, all the water from the Genesis flood, which currently covers three-fourths of the Earth's surface, would have disappeared down the drain by now.
10. After supposedly "millions of years," tetrapods haven't evolved into pentapods.
11. Evolution is only a theory, like the theory of the Scottish origin of rap music.
12. There are well known, professionally published scientists who believe in God and who think dogs can telepathically communicate with humans.
13. If you leave bread, peanut butter, and Fluff on a counter long enough, does it eventually evolve into a Fluffernutter sandwich? Not likely.
14. Contrary to claims by Darwinists, Ann Coulter is not a transitional fossil.
15. If creationism isn't a valid alternative theory, then what are we going to do with all that crap in the Creation Museum?
Happy Sunday!

Circus of the Damned #3, Werewolf and Backlash 12 cover backside!
Hmmm, I think this might be a bit dark on here. Circus of the Damned #3 cover featuring Richard. ETA: Yes, it was very dark so I fixed it. ~Jess
Quick sketch of 'wolfen' style werewolf. I can't mention what it's for yet.

The flip side of the Backlash 12 cover featuring Serge and Machinot ( I think it's spelled this way Mokinaught,) with Lilitu and her man servant guy, Jess says his name starts with a 'Z'. Thanks to Mondo for scanning and sending this to me:)
More stuff soon. I have like 4 more Stargate covers and 5 more Anita covers that are done.
Best,
Brett

Interesing cover story...
I found a web page with some Anita Blake covers and sketches. The interesting thing is that some of this stuff was not released to the public. So I'm wondering where they got it from. I don't really care just my curiosity.
Anyways, when we first got the Anita Blake license those many years ago, I had done a bunch of sketches, we initially wanted to start with book 2, the first isn't as hard core Anita as I like, Laurell didn't really hit her stride until the end of the 2nd book in my opinion. This worked out a bit since these designs were still around to be used by Marvel for Laughing Corpse.
So the process starts with me doing sketches, these get approved or changes are made. This is the first Anita sketch I did. I didn't really like it it wasn't 'right'.
Anyways, I did 2 other sketches. the second was also wrong but I got it on the 3rd try. Marvel used that sketch for the cover of one of the trades... Thanks for showing me in best light with a sketch, the gun isn't even finished!
On to the cover for #1. With the design out of the way I was asked to do the first cover, I devised the idea to do simple character covers similar to the book covers, these would be done with 2 colors, black and blue or red. So I went to work... It took 3 days to get the first cover done, I couldn't get it the way I wanted it to be. But eventually things clicked and after spending about 4 hours on the last picture I was done... or so I thought. What you are familiar with is NOT the first draft, it's the second this is the original design:

Laurell didn't like the top, you see, I screwed myself with my own cleverness. Laurell loved the t-shirt design with the penguin on it on the first sketch (Anita has a large collection of stuffed penguins so I thought why not a shirt?) so I was asked to put the original shirt design on the cover. Which is what everyone is now familiar with:
I like, it it works, but now I'm stuck trying to create new t-shirt ideas for her to wear... Eventually I'll run out of monsters;) Seriously, I have Frankenstein, a Witch, a mummy, a Zombie,I think a Gillman and a Vampire... I need more monsters!
This is an image not really seen. Jess colored the covers as black and white and later added the colors you are familiar with. This is what the original cover looked like sans color:

There is also a JC one done like this.
The moral of the story? Don't try to be too clever, it will bite you on the ass!
Best,
Brett

He-man!
This was done years ago for a friend of mine, I had done an earlier piece that helped him get the license for this project. I figured since we already have Thundercats and Dinosaucers revamps on here, I might as well toss in a He-man as well;) These would be the badguys;)Best,
Brett
I found some other redesigns by a Marvel cover artist that are quite cool, go here!

Horrible Scans of Old Work
Some old commissions I was sent. The scans are horrible at least on the first one. Spidey verses his various foes.
And then Nightwing and Iceman. For some reason people keep wanting me to draw Nightwing. I'm not sure why. I've got a couple of more commissions to send out and then I'm done with them, But I want to know what the hell is up with the shipping? The costs are now outrageous! fedEx 3 day over $25.00? Shipping to Canada over $60.00 for a medium sized box that weighs less than a pound?!?! Oy.
